Description
Born after the Korean War, this fusion stew combines American ingredients (spam, hot dogs) with Korean flavors. Fun to make and share!
Ingredients
- 1 can spam, sliced
- 4 hot dogs, sliced
- 8 oz tofu, cubed
- 2 cups kimchi, chopped
- 1 package instant ramen noodles
- 2 cups Napa cabbage, chopped
- 1 onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken or anchovy broth
- 2 tablespoons gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 green onions, chopped
- American cheese slices (yes, really!)
- Rice cakes (optional)
Instructions
- Arrange ingredients in a large pot or electric skillet in sections: spam, hot dogs, tofu, kimchi, cabbage, onion.
- Mix broth with gochugaru, gochujang, soy sauce, and garlic. Pour over ingredients.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add ramen noodles (discard seasoning packet). Cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Place cheese slices on top. Let melt slightly.
- Garnish with green onions.
- Serve family-style from the pot. Everyone gets a bowl of broth, noodles, and ingredients!
